The Brown House Summer Book Study will meet on Mondays throughout June and July to read and discuss Counterfeit Gods by Tim Keller. You can pick up a book at HYACKs for $10. Read the sheduled chapter beforehad and come when you can.
In HYACKs, we joyfully commit to always be studying a biblical book chapter by chapter, either on Wednesdays or Sundays. This summer, that biblical book is Judges. While Judges is certainly not an easy or "light" book to study, it does have a clear shape, as it relates the continuing cycles of sin for God's people as they turned away from God, were defeated or taken into slavery, were delivered by a God-given judge, only to return again to sin and rebellion. Judges' shape points clearly to the theme of the book – "we need a king!" Its concluding remark enforces this: "In those days there was no king in Israel. Everyone did what was right in his own eyes" (21:25).
Chicago Impact is partnering with Sunshine Gospel Ministries and their work on the Southside of Chicago. Through Sunshine's Bridge Builders program, Chicago Impact is designed for participants to have an experience for themselves whereby they see the Gospel bridge racial, economic, and geographic divisions with their own eyes. Through workshop-style training, Bible study, media presentations, service, ministry site visits, and prayer, participants are encouraged to listen as God expresses His heart for the poor. Learn more about the Bride Builders program here.
World Impact Spain is going to a city along the coast in the south of Spain called Fuengirola. They are partnering with Decision Ministry in Spain, which is led by José-Pablo Sanchez. Together, they are holding a Bible campaign in the city, doing street evangelism, and performing mime and hip-hop. They are also spending time with College Church missionaries Giles and Debbie Davis in the suburbs of Madrid. Our hope for this trip is that we will be able to impact the minds and hearts of Spaniards, that they would be transformed by the power of Jesus, and that a needed Christian church would be planted. Keep up with the trip on their blog.
